Research Activities
Medicinal and Synthetic Chemistry
The Medicinal Chemistry Department is engaged in the discovery of NCEs in the areas of cancer, inflammation and diabetes. Medicinal chemists conceptualize, design and synthesize NCEs using their expertise in organic chemistry, biochemistry, and computational chemistry. Active compounds (hits) are also obtained by screening our compound and natural product libraries.
Natural Products Chemistry
Extracts from Natural biodiversity is obtained from wide variety of sources in form of existing library as well as extensive country-wide collaborative effort with various research centers. Natural product chemistry lab is equiped with HPLC-PDA, MPLCs and preperative HPLCs to identify novel bioactive chemical entites quickly and efficiently. The high throuput fractionation / isolation Sep-box facility is also available in the lab. The plants and microbes are identified using taxonomy & biotechnological tools respectively.
